Question about Breaking Dawn?

On a few pages in the book, Bella is talking about how she can hear the breaths of Edward next to her.

"I went back to counting Edward's breaths to mark the time."

Wtf? I thought vampires didn't breathe!

Or is there something I'm just misunderstanding?

In addition to what the people above said...The vampires also chose to breathe to make it seem like they are humans to the people around them or else some people would become suspicious.

lmao no vampires do breath...but they dont have to. the reason that they do breath even tho they dont have to is so they can smell and also so they look more human.

they dont need to breathe, as they dont need oxygen, but when bella is a newborn vampire, she explains how she likes the feel of it when she breathes in the air.

stephanie explains that it's uncomfortable for vampires not to breathe even though they dont have to because thats how they smell when they breathe in. they rely on their senses and dont feel comfortable not being able to smell.

they dont have to, but it is 'slightly uncomfortable' not to. they are without there sense of smell if they dont, so most of the time they do breath

They choose to breathe because if they don't breathe then they will loose they're sense of smell.

You had it right in the question... but just a note to all the respondents... vampires don't need to breathe. But humans don't need to breath either, seeing as it's a noun.

In the first book Edward is explains that Vampires do breathe, but they don't have to. He says that it's just habbit now, because he has to blend in.

They breath so a) they can smell and b) they live among humans, so they have to blend in

and it gets uncomfortable for them after a while, plus they need a sense of smell.
