Question about Cervical Cancer?

I am 19 yr old female. I've never been to the Gynecologist and have only been "active" for a year. With urging from my Boyfriend, I am scheduling an appointment within the week. SCARED!! My boyfriend brought up that he heard some things about Cervical Cancer. That when a woman has that that the doctors have to ... scrape the area. I don't know if this is true and even he is not sure if he heard right. But is this true? I know that I'm not at high risk now, but I never want to be that person that waits too long.

Also the preventative shot. Guardasil, would it still work for me already having begun being "Active"?

You don't get cervical cancer from having s*x.  It is not an std so if it were something that you were going to have then you would end up with it any way.  I am 29 and my mom had cervical cancer in her early 30's so my doc just made me get the guardasil shot at my last exam.  There are many ways to treat cervical cancer my mom had laser surgery.  Unless it's something that you have and you know you have to deal with it, don't stress over it.  There's too many other things to worry about when you are "active" like std's and unplanned pregnancies.

ya.. freezing, biopsy, etc.. so many things can be done to your cervix. if you have cervical cancer or abnormal cells or any complications. from what is said about guardasil, it can help prevent cervical cancer and you can get the needle up to about 25 years of age i think.
