Question about Changsha, Hunan, China

This september I'm going to Changsha to study in Hunan University. If you're from Changsha, please tell me about Changsha life. Specially about house rent (for one person) or dormitory fee, how much will be the living cost for 1 month.. etc. How is the weather, should I take coat, boots for cold weather or not.

Hi, I am not from Changsha, but Changsha is the capital city of Hunan, I come from Hunan, I know my capital very well.

House rent: you can rent a good house at the price of 1000RMB\month (of course, you can always find many houses with the price very low: 500RMB, 800RMB, but the condition is not very good), the problem is you only rent the house for one month. In China, generally, you must rent the house at least for three months; otherwise, the price will be a little higher. Since your purpose in Changsha is study, so I think a house inside the campus is much better. Hunan University is a very good university with the longest history in China (with the title: one thousand years college). Another two famous university (Zhongnan University and Hunan Normal University) are very near the Hunan University, if you can not find a proper house in Hunan University, you can check with another two universities. A house (two rooms and a parlor) in Zhongnan University is 1400RMB/month. You can share the money with your roommate, so you only need pay 700RMB/month. The dormitory in most university in China is very cheap：1000RMB/year, but is very crowded. But it up to you!

Weather: September in Changsha is quite hot; you just need some light clothes. The temperature there is very high until November. So please don’t worry about the weather.  

Life in Changsha: life there will very colorful. If you like spicy food, you will really enjoy your life there! Hunan University is at the bank of Xiang Jiang (Xiang River), the longest river in Hunan. Chairman Mao once wrote a famous poem about the scenery near Hunan University. Xiang River is a romantic place, many young girl and boys date there. Hunan University is not very far from the center of Changsha, you can take the bus to the most famous commercial center in 30 minutes.

Changsha has had a long commercial history, and local craftwork and specialty products are some of the best in the country.

The Xiang Embroidery (Xiang xiu) is the highlight, regarded in China as one of the four best embroidery types along with the Suzhou & Sichuan embroidery and the Yue embroidery from Guangdong.

Other specialties include the Xiang Tea (Xiang cha), porcelain & pottery, chrysanthemum stones, fans, firecrackers, lacquer reproductions, smoky quartz, bloodstone carvings, duck-down clothing and bamboo carvings, all of which can be bought in many stores around the city.

The main shopping streets in Changsha are Huangxin lu, Zhongshan lu and Cai'e lu.
