Question:

Question about Christian persecution...?

I'm a Christian myself and I was just noticing how in the world most of the time- Christians get more persecuted alot more than most other religions (Jews get persecuted alot though too). I personally don't understand why that is.

Like I bet if a Islam dude went to school, and prayed (not preachful praying but just doing one of his daily prayers that his religion requires him to do) the school wouldn't get upset, but if a Christian were to pray for his food at lunch- privately - someone might sue him... You know what I mean right?

Just in general, also in media, Christians are always made to look the stupid over-the-top religious freaks, and that portrays a really different picture than what we believe in :-).

I'm just curious why this is? What is it that makes people so offensive to the idea of a Christian belief?

Enlighten me.

  1. they're just jealous. haha. btw i'm catholic, so i know what you mean. however, i go to a catholic school so we pray all the time.

btw hey atheist, how can you proove that something doesn't exist? it's virtually impossible

  2. Nonsense. Christian students may pray and they do pray. Any person of any faith may pray in school. Adults may not lead prayer or religious activity. That is the ruling of Abington versus Schempp, 1963.

I treat people according to how they act. If they try to legislate their morality/beliefs, I consider them to be acting stupidly and bluntly tell them as I fight their actions. I certainly do not need the media to see stupidity on the part of loudmouthed Christian fundamentalists.

If Christians in the USA are persecuted, then I am a Space Shuttle Commander and dean of the Harvard Medical School. I live in the Bible Belt. I have yet to meet a pastor who does not lie or pass on third hand stories/urban myths.

  3. mm..i think you are actually right. You shouldn't be surprised though. If you we are not being persecuted.. then we must be backsliding. Persecution is just part of the package and it is about to get worse.

I don't know what its like in America, I am refering to Nigeria, Zim, China, North Korea and the Middle east

  4. Go look up the term "persecution".

No one sues people for praying privately during their own time at school. It is your legal right to do that. Do you have evidence of a circumstance where someone was sued for doing this?

  5. TRUTHFULLY, ALOT OF CHRISTIANS LOOK DOWN ON OTHERS. AND TRY TO BE THE KNOW IT ALLS. SO MAYBE THAT'S WHY

  6. Baloney.  There is no persecution of Christians in the US.  Kids can pray all they want in schools so long as they aren't disruptive, and they can read their Bibles as well so long as they aren't disruptive and it doesn't interfere with their studies. Don't be citing second hand claims that you heard from your friend or pastor because it's most likely nonsense intended to inflame rather than real facts.

Check any of the websites with "persecution" stories and NONE of them come from the US and the reason is because there is no persecution of Christians in the US.  They are the majority religion here and they run *everything*.  Just try being the member of another religion or an atheist and you'll see what I mean.

Christians can go to church all they want here.  They can express their religious beliefs as they choose (though they have to understand others will reply).  They can pray whenever and wherever they want, but in some places they have to do so silently.  They also have to understand that they can't force everybody else to pray--just like others cannot force them to pray.  Unfortunately some want the old days where everybody, regardless of faith or lack of, was made to pray to the Christian god, though they would scream bloody murder if they or their kids were made to pray to another god or refused permission to pray at all.

  7. You got some evidence that a Christian praying privately at lunch got sued?  There is no law or policy saying that people can't pray quietly to themselves.

Yes, I've heard a couple of stories from parents claiming that their child was punished for praying in school but when reporters try to track it down it always turns out that the child was disciplined for something else completely but the parents wanted some publicity and made up the story about prayer.

The media?  Every Christian holiday the media feature stories about worship services, church activities, and large pictures on the front page of people in church.  How is that making them look like "stupid over-the-top religious freaks?"

How can a religion that includes around 85% of the population be persecuted by the minority?  Do you think that any time a Christian isn't given automatic preference or extra priveleges it's persecution?

Go and try to practice your faith in Iran.  Then come back and tell me about persecution.  You're not persecuted, you're occasionally inconvenienced by having to accept that your religion doesn't include 100% of the population.  That is NOT persecution.

  8. a  lot of what is claimed as persecution is where christians get told that they can't influence others like they used to or when christians promote lies, bigotry, hatred and intolerance and then get told to stop

not all christians are made to look over the top, unfortunately the loudest christian voices are the bigots and the ignorant

  9. Because Satan doesn't care about any false religions. It is the true religion that he is concerned about. Jesus told us many times that we would be persecuted for our beliefs. When compared to many other Christians in the past who were burned alive for their faith, we have it easy.

  10. John 15:18  "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.  19  If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  20  Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.  21  But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

  11. Persecution of Christians is on the increase in the United States.  A pattern is emerging reminiscent of Jewish persecution in post war Germany.

Tolerance of anti-Christian attitudes in the United States is escalating. Recently, a woman in Houston, Texas was ordered by local police to stop handing out gospel tracts to children who knocked on her door during Halloween. Officers informed her that such activity is illegal (not true), and that she would be arrested if she continued. In Madison, Wisconsin, the Freedom from Religion Foundation distributes anti-Christian pamphlets to public school children entitled, "We Can Be Good Without God." The entertainment industry and syndicated media increasingly vilify Christians as sewer rats, vultures, and simple-minded social ingrates.

Even a casual observance of the facts reveals growing isolation of Christians as a people group, especially school age believers. Faculty and peer efforts to convince public school children that America was not founded on Christian ideals, and that our forefathers actually wanted a secular society, permeates public school interaction. History revisionists labor to eliminate any and all contradictory historical evidence from public school curriculum, and mockingly stereotype Christians as unenlightened fringe.

Intolerant, Christ-hating censors of religious expression target the media and public school curriculum because this is the best place, outside of the churches and families, to indoctrinate children and thus manipulate the future political and cultural landscape. If one succeeds in separating Godly principles from public education and the media, they deny citizens the knowledge of good and keep them from embracing the laws of God. To that extent, they are pawns of evil and subvert and destroy both the message and the messengers of righteousness

  12. No I am not sure that this is nonsense. I have heard enough instances where Christian children get in trouble in school for praying. Yet, my brother is in a school now with Muslim children and it is sanctioned and allowed for them to pray. My brother has also told me that if a Christian child questions this and wants to know why they aren't allowed that same option THEY get into trouble. It is less about persecuting than it is about the school being afraid of the ACLU coming after them if they don't let the Muslim kids do it.

  13. i agree, and also i must point out that you're group isn't made fun of anymore than any other group.

  14. Christians in the West are not persecuted.

The fact that you have an internet connection leads me to believe that you are not living in a place where you have to worry about persecution.

The Christian Persecution Complex truly baffles me.

ETA:  And nobody is going to sue you if you say a private prayer over your lunch.  It's only compulsory religion that is illegal in public schools.

  15. I think you are refering to the overcompensation in the UK to be seen as multi-national. Whereas actually we are not multi-national, as the UK want to quash the majority to ensure we do not offend the minority  - for example christianity is the dominant religion, so we aren't allowed to celebrate Christmas for fear we offend non-christians. Ridiculous right? Most non-christian denomination think so too
