Question about Concerta...?

My 8 year old daughter is on Concerta for ADHD. She takes it when she has school, but the Doctor said that it is alright to not give it to her on weekends and on school vacations. She stays with my grandmother a lot, and she thinks that the doctor is right, but I think that it could mess with her system to be taken on and off it so much. Who is right?

My oldest son was on Concerta for his ADHD.  His doctor said the same thing. After one weekend off of the Concerta...we decided that for him it was not a good idea to not take it on the weekends.  Those days he got so hyper and disruptive.  It is almost like he made up for the days that his body was calmer on the medicine.  On Mondays he was tired if he did not take it on the weekends.  I think it is better for kids to take it daily.

PS...he is not on it anymore...because it stopped working for him after a while.  Now he is on Risperdal and Wellbutrin instead.

I have took concerta for about 4 years and they told me the same thing and so i don't take it on the weekends or on a school beak unless something big is going on.

my 7 yr old daughter is also on concerta! her ped handles her meds and she says that it is alright to only give it on school days also! she has been ner dr since birth and i whole heartedly trust her advice and opinions! she truly is a great caring dr. so i think it is o.k., however it is your child and i think that the decision should be up to you!i m not positive but i believe concerta is out of th esystem in like 12 hrs.go to concerta.com or if u stil have ? ask your pharmacist fior info on it and do some research then make your decision! good luck

I am advised to take mine everyday because i'm just out of hand otherwise, but it's best to give her routine and take it everyday. If you plan on going out on the saturday i suggest taking it as i personally freak out in public without my meds. Hopes this helps

Please talk to your daughter's doctor about this, not a bunch of strangers on Y!A. There are a lot of trolls here who post answers just to be "funny," but if you take their advice, it could hurt someone you love! Use your best judgement and speak to your daughter's pediatrician. That is the best advice anyone can give you.

i take it too and i take it every day and if i dont i end up being realy hyper and i pig out

well it will be alright because i take concerta just let her skip saturday and let her take it Sunday so it can get back in her system but i want hurt anyhting Im 15/fand i take it mon- fri and it soent hurt me so she should be find and if you have any more questions hit me up
