Question about DIII Swimming!?

I want to swim for a DIII college. My times in SCY are as follows:

50 free: 23

100 free: 51

100 Back: 59

200 IM: 2:10

Are they good enough to make the team or at least participate to some degree?

  1. You won't be placing at nationals, but I would expect that you would be welcome to join the team. See the link below for this year's results from D-III Nationals.

  2. Your times look very close to my times in high school.

I made it on a D3 team and did pretty well within the team. I don't know how long you have been swimming or how much faster you stand to get, but you have a good starting point. You shouldn't struggle any, but you're probably not going to be the stud on the team for your first year or two.

It all depends on what school you go to really, my school (metro state in Denver) pretty well sucked when I was swimming. I swam the 100 back like 3 times before joining their team, I think I went a 1:02 something, and I was their number 2 backstroker. But my free times were the exact same as yours and I was just an average swimmer. My coach let anyone swim regardless of their times as long as they gave 100% in practice, so we had a lot of people that had no business in a college swim team on the team.

You'll be fine, just don't let it consume too much of your time and focus on school. Swimming, sorry to say, isn't going to take you anywhere in life. A degree will.
