Question:

Question about Ebay and what I should do?

I had bought something off Ebay on June 30th, sent off my check the same day, it got to the person. I had emailed the person asking if the check had made it safe and sound, (don't you hate it when sellers don't communicate with you to just let you know they received your payment and when they will ship? Anywho, that's a whole different story). She said she received it and was waiting on her bank to let her know it had cleared. Well I called my bank today and they said the check cleared on the 10th of this month! And it's the 18th today! What should I do? Keep emailing her or just go ahead and file an "item not received" dispute? I have never had something take this long to get to me and I always send a check. I have excellent feedback so I don't know what the hold up is. Need advice please. Thanks in advance, and PLEASE no hateful answers. Thank you! :)

  1. Always communicate with your seller and always start out being nice.  You never know what has happened.  A good approach might be "I've contacted my bank and they show my check to you cleared on the 10th.  I was wondering when you shipped my [item] because it has not arrived yet and I'd like to follow up with the Post Office."  Assume the best until you have evidence to the contrary.

Hate to say it, but it is summer time and lots of people are taking vacations and long weekends.  Also, a lot of seller assume if you send a check, you are not in a hurry for the item, so it gives them quite a bit of lee-way in getting your item out the door.

Please communicate kindly and directly with your seller.  You are likely to get your best results that way.

  2. just go ahead and file the complaint...i waited too long and by the time i finally decided to file a complaint, ebay told me that i had waited to long...so do it now...i never got what i purchased or my money back!

  3. A seller is not required to communicate with you.  Ebay is not walmart.  Most transactions happen with little or no communication at all.   It's only been 8 days since it cleared.  You have no protection because you used a check.  Sign up for paypal and protect yourself.

  4. Actually, it has only been 8 days since it cleared your bank and that includes 2 non-business days. First contact the seller and let him know that it cleared your bank on the 10th and that you would like to know if the item has shipped yet. Let the seller know that you expect a response by a certain day (give them 48-72 hours) and that if you don't receive it, then file a claim.

And since you have a bank and a checking account, why in the world haven't you signed up for paypal? It is the easiest and safest way to do business on ebay, both for when you are buying and selling.
