Question about Faux Tile backsplash?

This requires using drywall compound. Will this compound stick to paneling?

Tile should be applied using a "Mastic" or a  "Thinset" mixture of some sort, I just want to make sure that you know this as drywall compound or joint compound will NOT work in holding your new tile in place, as it has no flexibility to it.

Mud will stick to paneling, but you will want to prime it first.  Scuff it up with steel wool, then use a product like Zinsser 1-2-3.  The mud will adhere to that nicely.  Good luck.

Edit:  I see that I read the question properly.  You are trying to do a FAUX tile finish, not actually using tile.  I guess not everyone reads the entire question.
