no...dont go on an empty stomach or you may get faint.  the drink is veryyyy sugary and may give you the gitters.  eat things high in protein like penut butter or chicken with some carbs, and try to stay away from sugar drinks and pops before you go.drink lots of water and youll be fine.. but do eat!

Yes because food or drink you have before the test can affect your sugar which is what they are checking.It can make it read higher or lower than it really is.

Tasha W...she wasn't saying she had diabetes...she was asking about eating prior to going to your doctor...for a ROUTINE GESTATIONAL DIABETES TEST...this is to make sure she isn't at risk during prgnancy...and the doctor does the test..it isn't a home test

it also depends on your doctor..i could eat b4 my test but...i wasn't hungry so i'm not sure if that had an effect...also  my test came up normal...but i actually had it..the test didn't catch it..and because of that i have a 9 pound baby..i weight 108 pounds...im very little..so those tests aren't always right.

I think it will depend on your clinic, some say you can't eat after midnight others just tell you have a very very small breakfast. But, do drink lots of fluids!  Hopefully you'll get the orange drink...it really does taste like orange sunkist soda. Also give them a call a day before and make sure it will be cold, it tastes a lot better cold!!

my doctor just told me not to eat 2 hours prior.  Thank goodness the didn't say after midnight, lol, my appointment's not until 3:15!

im a sugary person! MMMM sweets!!

i had mine set for 4pm and my doc said not to eat anything at least 6 hours prior. so just ate 2 eggs and a small glass of milk for BF and pretty much starved the rest of the day. I passed mine with a 104!!! YAY me :)

Yes, you're supposed to go on an empty stomach. My doctor never told me to go on an empty stomach, but luckily I didn't eat anything within 3-5 hours of taking the test, so it wasn't a problem. I would say go ahead and check with your doctor just to be sure. good luck   :)

My doctor told me I was completely fine to eat and drink water before I drank the glucose drink. She said then after I drank the glucose drink to not eat or drink anything until after the hour was up and after they drew my blood. Good luck!

It depends, some doctors say to fast from midnight til your appt, but mine just said don't eat anything 3 hrs prior to your appt. Take some crackers or some other snack and some water with you. You will want it when your done. Trust me!  Good luck!

i would recommend it. i went at 9 am to get mine done and hadnt eaten anything since midnight and passed with no problem. the glucose test is testing to see how well your body metabolizes sugars and when you already have alot of sugar in your body from eating and then drink this drink the test results may come back looking a little high- requiring you to take the 3 hour test for nothing.

depends on what type diabetes you have. Test one half hour before meals and after meals. your sugar should be low on empty stomach, test then and after you eat.
