I am 17, and just now starting gymnastics. at 208 pounds at 5'10 I am still not in top shape.

1. If I join Gymnastics now and train for two years, does that mean I wont be able to compete in meets because of my age and undeveloped skill?

2. What should my body look like for a starter? underweight, normal. Would it be okay that I am a little on the big side, but am continuously loosing weight (so far 40 pounds)?

  1. You're 17.  It's too late.  Sorry, but at 17 you're going to have to learn that some of the decisions you made when you were younger you may end up regretting.  There's nothing you can do about it.  Keep doing gymnastics for the enjoyment and for your health, but you're not going to ever make it to the Olympics.  If this is really hard for you to deal with, I suggest you give up asking questions here and seek some assistance from a pastor, psychologist, respected adult, etc.

  2. just do it and see where your dreams take you!!!!!!!!

  3. I am curious as to why you keep posting the same question?

You keep getting the same answers.

Just keep having fun with it and see where it takes you. You won't be competing anytime soon, but if it the way you want to lose weight then good for you.

  4. I already answered your questions, but I will put it blatantly for you. You will never be an Olympic gymnast. You will never be an elite gymnast. You can still do gymnastics for fun, but you missed out as you said. You can never get that back. Now move on. You aren't going to be Shaun Johnson or Nastia Liukin. Gymnastics is a sport you have to start young. I don't care about these "follow your dreams" c**p that people are posting. It's the truth. You are asking for it.
