Why do her children, Peter and Zara NOT have the royal title of Prince and Princess? Their cousins all do! They are all grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth.

This doesn't seem fair.....

  1. She declined the titles when they were born. Good thing too - see how normal they are!

  2. Anne married a commoner who did not want a title;Anne also did not want titles for her children. In the UK, children get titles from the male parent,so Anne could not automatically pass on her royal status like her brothers could. And even if Mark Phillips wanted a title,he would not have received a royal title, just an aristocratic one.

Edward and his wife Sophie have also opted not to give their children royal titles, just aristocratic ones ( see http://www.royal.gov/uk/output/Page5590....  "At the time of their wedding it was decided, with the couple's agreement, that any children they had should not be given the style His or Her Royal Highness, but would have courtesy titles as sons or daughters of an earl.).

  3. Princess Anne chose not to give her children the title HRH as she wanted them to grow up as "normal" children.

  4. The reason why HRH The Princess Royal's children do not have HRH (titles) is because they have chosen not to have them and are thus not hounded by the paparazzi.

The letters HRH are quite meaningless in the modern sense when a simple DNA test will prove their lineage.

But, as they say, things are soon to change and an act of parliament will go thru' (I think this year) which will allow the monarchs' 'eldest' child, boy or girl, to ascend the throne.

  5. They don't have titles because her 1st husband - their father Mark Phillips - didn't want a courtesy title from the queen - so no title for the children either.

  6. The Queen wanted to give the children styles and titles but Princess Anne and her husband Captain Mark Philips did NOT want the children to be titled or styled.

They in their own right, Zara is a princess and Peter is a prince but they do not have the title.

I think it was a wonderful decision on their parents behalf...it probably helped them to lead a more normal life.

  7. i have never heard princess anne being called princess royal..

  8. This was HRH's personal decision apparently.

  9. They are privileged leeches and scroungers who live off our taxes.  This doesn't seem fair!!!

  10. They were offered it but their mother didn't want it for them which is fair enough.

  11. I answered this same question twenty hours ago and here is my answer:

Titles and honours in the United Kingdom are inherited via the father and not by the mother, unless the mother is an heiress capable of passing on titles and honours. Princess Anne could not transmit princely status to her children because that is limited to male-line grandchildren and children of the sovereign by Letters Patent. Also, Mark Philip was, and is, a commoner so he had no titles to pass to his children and he turned down the notion of being given one, as was given to Anthony Armstrong-Jones when he was created Earl of Snowdon and Viscount Linley.
