Question about ISBN numbers of books?

I know that when there is a different cover on a book it means it's a different publishing edition. But does each different cover of a book have a different ISBN number?

Recently I purchased a couple books to complete a trilogy that I have the first book of. I know there are different covers out there and I specifically ordered the one from barnesandnoble.com that has the picture of the cover I want. When I recieved my book it came with a different cover. Now my set looks mismatched! And more importantly I don't like how this cover looks.
