Question:

Question about India Family Life?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I read that in India when a son marries, especially the eldest son, he and his wife - who receives her inheritance - will continue to live at his birth home with his mother, father and as well as with his brothers, sisters and so on. Does this tradition still continue?

Also what happens when his younger brothers marry. Do they too stay at their birth home, do they all live together in the same house as extended family?

Thanks to all who help with this question.

  1. well some familys do....only tradition...we are in 21st centuryy...they dont doo that too much

  2. yes,  you are right.  we are still following the joint family traditions.  it is a helpful to whole.  Elders are respected and all will hear what they say.  when any family member got an employment out side the parent's home, they will stay for employment reasons   In fact, they will take their parents to stay with them.  it is our tradition to safeguard parents by the sons. we are still following this tradition.  Now a days, the western culture are coming slowly, but we hate that culture and we are safeguarding our traditions are true.

  3. Yes, the tradition still continues. But not every person does this, in fact sometimes the husband and wife move to the West or other place due to some job opportunity. But for those die hard traditionalists they stay to the death in their families on the boys side even if their is so much abuse in the family etc. I know some people like this. Things are changing fast.
