Can anyone tell me what the economy for Ireland is looking like? What jobs/job fields are growing the fastest there? My husband was born in Ireland and we're planning on moving our family back there. He's from Cork. I'm trying to decide if now or maybe a year or so from now would be the proper time to make the move. And what kind of skills should I aquire to fit the best in the work force there.

  1. call centre was the big thing a while ago but its sorta slowed down a bit. your best bet is to try and get in the civil service although they take ages. you can check www.nicsrecruitment.gov.uk/ or www.jobcentreonline.com

  2. hi you

i to am from cork city and  Ireland`s economy is on a down turn right now and its hard to say if now when if it will be a short one or now but what i can say is that fas(the old man power as they when by) have a grand site on the net now which is fas.ie you can make you can even apply online for jobs here in cork city or any part of Ireland i know in cork right now there is no problem in getting a place to live let it be a flat or house if you and your husband keep an eye on this site who knows and it will give you pointers as to what kind of jobs are doing well just right now i do hope you and your husband come back to cork it is a great city to live the best of luck to you both

  3. Now is actually NOT a good time to be moving back to Ireland, the economy is lagging slightly. However, the up side of that is that it is now easier to get a house you can afford. All round, transferable skills are probably the best to acquire, so get some basic computer skills anyway.

  4. At the moment, the Irish Economy is in a down slide, its getting quite bad here, they are even talking about recession.

Money is short, jobs are short, and bank loans are very hard to come by.

Jobs wise, I hear the building trade is doing very poorly, with a lot of workers moving abroad. Office and Clerical workers are doing well, and jobs in the Retail sector also seem to be ok at the moment.

If I were you, I would watch very closely and not decide anything at the moment. I think for you to come here at the moment would be a bad idea. Jobs are hard to come by, and there are gonna be hard times ahead.

I hope I have helped a little. Good luck with whatever you decide :o)

  5. we moved over to Ireland last year for the same reasons, but had to come back due to no jobs, if you are skilled most of the jobs are being taken by the polish who were alot cheaper for the employers in fact alot of the jobs were advertised in polish, so unless you are a polish speaker you might as well stay put until things get better

  6. Ireland is buggered, come back because you want to move back but don't move back if you think your going to prosper.  There is no growth market any more.  I'm from the North and I've never seen things this bad.  The folks in the dial and stormont have destroyed their own people.  The developers got so greedy they more or less killed off the economy.  I don't think we'll recover from it.  Keep your eyes on Belfast, Belfast is the hub whatever happens there will dictate how the rest of Ireland will fare.  As you know Belfast can be a violent place, if the number of attacks on immigrants goes stratospheric that will tell you just how bad the economy is.

  7. i get news from ireland.im told that the economy is in decline.that the number of companies that went out of business in first 6months of 08 is up 76%.between jan and june 312 companies were put into voluntary liquidation.electricity and gas prices are to go up by as much as 20%.and the government is to cut 300million euro on capital spending.the housing sector is ******,mortgages are breaking people, job losses all  over the place.my mother is from Bandon in Cork.if i was you id re- think that move back to ireland your thinking about.the 'celtic tiger' has ****** off.
