Well I'm trying to understand the difference between Sore,Kore,Are,Dore and Kono,Sono,Ano,Dono.

From what I'm understanding,it's like this:

The first group (sore,kore,..) are followed by wa in a sentence,then watashi no or anata no etc,noun,and desu.

The second group (sono,kono,...) are followed by the noun wa,anata no etc,desu.

Tell me if I'm correct and give me examples with translations.

  1. Kore/Sore/Are are used when the object isn't mentioned.

    Kore= near the speaker

    Sore= near the listener

    Are= not by either

    Kono/Sono/Ano are used with the object (sono kamera).

    Kono= speaker

    Sono= listener

    Ano= not by either

    Kore wa nan desu ka?

    What is this?

    Sore wa kamera desu.

    That's a camera.

    Kono kamera wa omoi ne.

    This camera is heavy, huh?

    Sono kamera wa karui yo, baka.

    That camera is light, idiot.

  2. Sounds right to me.

    for example:

    kore wa watashi no pen desu.

    this is my pen.

    sono pen wa tsukue no shita desu.

    that pen is under the desk.

  3. No. Think of the -re group as nouns and the -no group as adjectives. The -re group can stand alone. "kore wo kudasai" - Please give me this. The -no group must come before a noun: "Kono pen wo kudasai" - Please give me this pen.

    That's all there is to it.
