Question:

Question about Jury Duty?

by  |  earlier

I reported for jury duty about 2 months ago but didn't get picked as a juror. They sent me home with a "Certification of Jury Service". Today, I received another letter saying I need to report. But since it hasn't been close to 12 months yet, I assume that I should be excused. I tried calling but they are closed for the day. I just want to know now to ease my nerves especially because the date is so close to important events and a 2-week vacation that I'm going on.

Please, please help

  1. You should be able to show your certificate and get out of jury duty.  However, if it is jury selection for another jury service then you may have to go:  state vs. federal.

  2. I got out of jury duty by telling them I was an ex-cop. But, it asked on the online form, and I am an ex-cop. I think they check on that stuff.

  3. Different courts than the one you served in can call you to serve.  I served at my county court house and was later called for a federal grand jury...  so yeah, you can get called more than once...  Call the number again though to make sure it is in fact a different court and not an error on their part.  Make sure you have your certifcation handy too.

  4. I think it is different for each locale.  I would just try calling them again tomorrow.  I served on a 6 person panel and wasn't called again for three years..that was a county summons.  I think city is more often.  Two months sounds a mistake, but call them again.
