I live in new york city and want to take the LIRR to Speonk to skydive but i've never taken the LIRR by myself before so i'm confused. On the mta info site they say transfer at jamaica. does that mean it's the stop i change my train. does it mean it's the only stop i have to change the train at? how would i know if i have to change to another train.

  1. That depends on time.

For example, if you board at NYC Penn Station before 12:35am, it has J and it means transfer at Jamaica Station for Montauk train. LIRR will make all connecting announcement.

If you board from NYC Penn Station and if there was no J or T, it means it goes directly. J in between are for passengers from Brooklyn station or Woodside, etc.

If you board 10:24 train with T symbol, transfer require at Babylon.

To purchase ticket, purchase from LIRR Ticket Window and Ticket Vending Machine.

There are two types of fare. Peak and off-peak.
