me and my two friends are staring a executive security company and want to register as an LLC.

however we are not going to be operating or generating any money, bidding on any contracts for a while, a year or two. How much would we end up paying if we did that.

we want to get the company set up and registered but are not ready to start it yet.

advice?

  1. Just wait until you are actually ready to start. In most states you can reserve the name for a nominal fee, $10-25.

That way, if you like the name you are going to use it will be available. Lots can happen in two years

  2. to get registered, it will cost about $250-$400 depending on the state, regardless of how you choose to operate for the next couple years.  after the initial registration cost, you are looking at a renewal fee of about $150 (this is in fl at least, your state might not require that.)  i think you shouldn't bother starting up your company legally until you are ready to start bidding and making money.  seems an incredible waste of money and paperwork.
