I have oticed that since i have been taking lexapro (2 months) I have had alcohol cravings like crazy! I drank before, but not that often. Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, i already talked to my doc about if alcohol is ok with lexapro and he said it doesnt have any bad effects....it just will make the alcohol effect worse.

  1. I've been taking Lexapro for over a year and a half - and I haven't noticed any more cravings for alcohol after I started taking it.  I've been avoiding alcohol to some degree because it is a depressant - and negates the effects of the Lexapro.

At my last doctor visit, he asked if I was drinking, and I told him one or two now and then... and he said to keep that to a minimum, and preferably none at all.  He's probably right... but we gotta live, too!!

I've noticed the same thing Sammy above mentioned - that just two glasses of wine will make me feel crummy the next day.  And it wasn't even cheap wine :-(

Best of Luck to you :-)

    Paul.

  2. ARE YOU CRAZY?

i was on lexpro for months and never had that kind of craving, but i do know that mixing these kinds of drugs and alcohol is not good for your stomach, head, heart, you need a new dr if he did tell you that mixing this kind of a drug with alcohol is ok.

  3. I don't take Lexapro, but my Wellbutrin does the same thing. My doc says a few drinks are fine. But I always kinda feel like "where's the bar?

I was on Lexapro briefly (I couldn't tolerate it) and my first DAY of it, I had a couple margaritas, then cooked up a giant meal, invited people over and had a nice party. I remember none of it. Just for a laugh--probably wont happen to you.

One thing I have noticed is I get blinding headaches with wine, but mixed drinks and beer seem fine.

  4. Actually, my cravings with Lexipro and Paxil were sugar! And since alcohol turns into sugar, it all makes sense, right?Ya ever notice that an alcoholic rarely eats dessert? It's because their craving is satisfied by the alcohol. But let me give you a warning about indulging in alcohol. It can and does cancel out the effect of the antidepressent...been there and it's the suckiest low I EVER felt!

  5. I've only been on Lexapro for a month and a half, and I have some cravings too. My doctor told me that you're only allowed one drink on Lexapro, so I've been trying to avoid alcohol...I think that's what making me want it more though.

  6. I have been on lexapro for two weeks now and I know what you mean. I was craving alcohol really bad the other day. I wasn’t sure what effect it would have. I do know that I’m really tired all day long taking this stuff.

  7. Yep, I'm on Lexapro 20mg.  I had alcohol cravings a lot during the first month.  Man I was binging almost.  But I've cut back big time now.  Actually, I barely drink.  Yeah, your doc is right on.  Alcohol + Lexapro = cheap drunk.  8-?
