I've noticed this. What is the catch, to an MOS that isn't combat related, and it comes with a big bonus? I never understood why some jobs get it, and others dont? Enlighten me please. Thank you.

  1. It depends on the difficulty of the job, really. If the military has spent more money on sending you to an MOS school for a year, versus others that only require six months, they don't want you to leave at the end of your contract because they have so much more invested in you. Also, not everyone that enlists is qualified to perform some MOS tasks, depending on their ASVAB score. Some MOS's only get a certain number of qualified people and and can't afford for anyone to get out, so they offer them a huge bonus to stay.

  2. A bonus is an incentive. If the military needs more people for a certain MOS, they will have a bonus to make people want to do that job. Also, if the MOS is difficult or dangerous, they will usually have a bonus so people will do it. Some jobs are like Navy Diver, EOD, Navy SEAL, SWCC...etc

  3. Like stated, these jobs are important and need to be filled. Some "non-combat" MOSes also see as much combat as infantry, for example transportation.

  4. It depends on how much the branch needs that MOS to be filled, how difficult the training is, and how long the training is. Most combat MOS's don't get bonuses because they have more people who want those positions then they have slots.

  5. All is about necessity. What ever the Army needs the most.
