Hey everyone! My brother and I are going to Managua next week and would like to see pictures and hear suggestions of what to do, what to see and where to stay. We hear that the lakes have some interesting islands that we should visit and that there are some fresh water sharks. Also we love to eat, so what dishes should we try? Anything we should avoid? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.... and let's see some of the WORLD!!!

  1. Answers and information so far are , right on. Be very alert. Take taxi's. There is much to see. Granada, Leon, are 2 very beautiful cities with much history & beautiful architecture. You don't mention how you are arriving, just be careful and alert. circumstances can change rapidly, especially with a new president and newly nationalized police force. Nica people are for most part, wonderful folks, be nice, but very alert to surroundings.

  2. The Mercado Huembes is pretty cool.

Masaya Volcano is worth going to: it's an active volcano and the view is awesome.

I don't remember any particular dishes but I do remember the food being good. And that I ate a lot of beans and rice.

There are a few neighborhoods you should probably avoid but you'll know when you see them (when the houses become shacks and it looks like a dump). And don't drink the water, or juice that was probably made from local water.

Here's a link to photos of when I went to Nicaragua, not all the photos are from when we were in Managua but the first few are: http://www.antithesis.ca/images.html
