Question about Mexico travel?

My 16 year old daughter has been invited to travel to Mexico with a friend and her family this summer. They are driving from Southern CA to San Felipe Mexico and entering Mexico from Arizona. I am a little concerned because of all the things I hear on the news about the Violence and abductions of Americans. The city of San Felipe seems relativley safe, but it worries me because they are driving through Mexico and the fact that I will not be with her if anything goes wrong. Can anyone give me any info or advice?

  1. Hey, I think you as a parent are worry about our kids and ther safety. I've been in Mexico tons of times and cross the border trough CA, AZ,TX, etc.

If your daughter is going with a family of a friend and a family you can trust your daughters safe everything is gonna be good.

There is nothing to worry about Mexico and their travel, Mexican

people are very friendly and helpful. Their Highways are really safe too.

Let your kid have fun. But still Pray for them.

  2. I just got back from Arizona, We drove from Arizona to Mexico. The best thing to do is to tell her to not trust anyone ( even if they are federal police, also called federalies) When you are in Mexico it is their country so they can do what ever they want. Tell her to not make things complicated by bringing home fruits or veggies. It is easy to cross the border, because they do not search your vehical. Bring passport for indentity. On the way back they might have random searches. The driver needs to drive carefully and not risk anything, so he doesn't get pulled over. I hope I helped!!!

  3. i'm certain you trust the family she will be going with , so enough said.

use common sense - Dont wear alot of jewelry , dont drive a yellow Hummer or red Corvette , dont travel at night , lock your doors , travel in pairs. Just use COMMON SENSE.

The violence is totally drug related - they have no intrest in securing "drug turf" from an American family. The violence is all drug related.

Drive a flashy car and well "who knows". Flash cash and jewlery and yeah some street punks might be watching - no different than any other big city in the world. Use common sense and your fine. Seriously - no worries.

Your more likely to be "conned' out of money. Ripping you off for cab fare or cost of a meal or sovineir.

Divide the peso price by 10 and thats its value in dollars.

You will worry no matter what we write here but trust me the media and what you've heard is a little blown out of proportion. Its all drug wars...................

  4. THERE IS A LOT OF VIOLENCE RIGH TNOW SO DON'T LET HER GO I JUST WENT AND OMG!

  5. Nope, you get violence if you manage drugs, weapons, etc.

I live in Mexico, and nothing bad happens, like on the news.

Of coarse she has to take her safety precautions.

Oh,and it really depends on what part she is going to,for example,if she goes to the capital of mexico ( which is mexico city),that would be a bit dangerous.
