Question about NATO?

if a country ever were to declare war on the US or and NATO country would the other NATO countries join arms together to help the country in duress? i guess what I'm asking is what is NATOs purpose?

Yes, that is exactly NATO's purpose.  It is first and foremost a military alliance.  Originally designed to keep the Soviet Union at bay, the political and peacemaking/peacekeeping side has been stressed-well until recently.  It is Article IV IIRC that states an attack on one member will be considered an attack upon all.  Pretty much sums it up.  It was invoked one time-after the September 11 2001 attacks.

No first of all they would have to have a meeting then someone would have to put up a resolution and if a country who has a veto and uses it  then nothing

If one member country of NATO is attacked within Europe or North America, all the other member countries must respond. It does not specify that this must be a military response (but it generally would be).

This has only happened once, after the US was attacked on 9/11.

first of all they have got to be the dumbest country to fight on american soil! when almost every american owns a gun. and yes i do believe that canadians will help us because they are right next door. the purpose of NATO is to keep peace and order and help poor countries that cannot defend themselves against bigger countries.
