Question:

Question about Naming Trends?

So what are the accepted names? I've asked before about several names and have always received mixed results. Some people seem to love the names Anna & Evelyn while others hate them and prefer Taylor, Cayla and Tiffani.

What's up? I know that many of us come from families full of common names. How do some end up loving an old-fashioned name while others loathe it? The thing is there is often no in-between and people are vicious about names they don't like.

  1. I think it's just personal preference, that's all.  Some people want their children to have a unique name, others a normal name but a unique spelling, and others w ant to be more trendy or traditional.

I also think the person is more important than the name.  For instance do hate the name Joe because you had an ex-boyfriend who was a real jerk with that name?  Do you love the name Grace because it is your Grandma's name (who is the strongest woman you've ever met)?

People can be vicious on here b/c they aren't face to face with someone. For example, If I met a girl Joanne (and always "hated" that name) does that mean that I will tell her I hate her name?  No I doubt it.

It all comes down to preference and we are all individuals!

  2. I guess it just depends on what you like. I'm kinda in the middle because if I have two girls, they will most likely be named

    Tara Elizabeth and Chrystie Noella.

    I know, odd right?

  3. Maybe people that prefer old fashioned names are left-brain thinkers. They choose the name because they love that it has history, origin, and meaning.

Trendier names may be more appealing to right brain thinkers. They love the names because they feel they are creative, unique, and different.

Possibly? It would make sense as to why there aren't many 'in-betweeners'... I personally favor the more classic names.

  5. I think every name is "accepted" to the parents that chose it.

It just depends on what kind of person you are, conservative, artistic....etc. Some people like chocolate icecream, some like vanilla.

And others like mango strawberry rhubarb icecream.

  6. What do you mean by "accepted names". Naming a baby is up to the parents, you can pretty much call your baby whatever you want its not up to anyone else and their opinion shouldn't matter at all.

  7. I think that is because alot of baby name message boards I have been on are full of young girls that don't even have kids, they are just daydreaming on what they are going to name their future kids', thus you get the immature cattiness, and messed up spellings trying to be unique and insults to people with names they like and dislike.

I try to be polite if I don't like a name because it is what someone is naming their child, even if it is a common name, some people prefer common names, some prefer old fashioned, some prefer family names, or a name that means something to them.

This is the one section that I don't understand the thumbs down. I mean unless you said you are going to name your baby Satan, or something that is really messed up, there is no need to be jerks about baby names.

My families names are pretty common, I don't mind common names, I like old fashioned names, and unusual names as well.

Like I said there are alot of young girls on here naming their dollies, or writing stories and looking for names, thus they are immature and rude about people on here seriously asking for ideas or opinions.
