  1. It depends on where you live. Some places are more remote then others, closer to St. John's there are more people, more shopping centres, and generally more work.

Some things are cheaper compared to the rest of Canada. But because the Newfoundland portion of the province is an island some items cost more because of shipping. Minimum wage is now $8 an hour.

If you like to travel and you're on the island part you need to take plane to the mainland or ferry. Travel can be a bit more expensive.

Rent in the St. John's and Mount Pearl area is anywhere from $400 for a smaller or shared apartment to $1000 or more for large apartments or small houses.

If you want to buy a nice size family home in St. John's area expect to pay $100,000 or more.  Town houses down town or homes out side the St. John's area do go for cheaper. In the Down town area there isn't a lot of parking on street parking is often the only option. Although you may save on taxes and housing if you decide to go outside of the St. John's area the drive in can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour or more to get to work. in the winter this is not fun.  My Boyfriend lived in a community 30 minutes from St. John's it was not fun out on those roads in snow storms.

Newfoundland is pretty arts orientated so there are music and theatre festivals often in the summer.

If you like hockey sorry to say the Fog Devils are leaving but there sometimes are some matches in the arenas.

The weather isn't overly bad but you may want to invest in a snow blower. St. John's doesn't clear all the side walks so be careful when walking.  But other months walking is great.

The Busses are get lots of complaints from locals but they are trying to add new routes and work out the problems.  I never had an issue getting a bus to and from work when I lived in Mount Pearl.

Lots of shopping if you like to shop. Down town has lots of interesting local shops. there are also two big malls in St. John's and lots of box stores. You throw a rock you are going to hit either a grocery store or a Wal Mart.

It has the lowest tuition in Canada. I go to MUN and really enjoy it.

If you like the out doors or camping there are lots of options. Lots of people have cabins or cottages where they spend holidays.

It's a nice province to live in. I enjoy being here.
