Question:

Question about Nikon Wireless Flash?

I have a Nikon D80 Camera and the SB 800 Flash. I was just given the SB 80DX Flash. I was wondering If both of the flash unites are compatible to work as as a wireless flash. One being the master and on being the slave? If so, which one would be the master and which one will be the slave? Also, is there anything else I would be needing for it to work? Thanks for any help in this matter.

  1. The SB800 uses a radio frequency to communicate with each other and the camera, the SB DX flash units use IR light to communicate ... like the Canons.

If there is an obstruction between the camera and flash, only the SB800 will fire.

  2. The D80 built in flash can be used as a Master flash and the SB800 can be used a slave, I don't know about the SB80x.

    This video might help.
