A borderline golf fan needs to know what the mystique of this course is? My dad had to get a picture of me holding the flagstick on the 18th at Pebble Beach on a trip to California nearly thirty years ago. Did they used to play a major there or something? And has its prominence been diminished by thirty years worth of "latest and greatest" golf courses?

  1. The 2010 US Open will be played there.  The prestige remains.  It is one of the most picturesque courses in America, but it has been said that it would only be a slightly above average course without the Pacific Ocean.  That is irrelavent, because it DOES have the spectacular vistas of the Monterrey Penninsula.

  2. It has hosted 4 US opens and 1 PGA Championship. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is played there annually as is the Champions Tour Wal-Mart First Tee Open. It's a public course but the green fees are a bit restrictive at nearly $500 plus a cart fee. Wouldn't you think the cart fee would be included in the $500 green fee? It does have a scenic view of the Monterey Peninsula and I would suspect that without that view it would be another $125 course.

  3. pebble beach is still very much a part of the us open rota! it was last held there in 2000 when tiger woods won it. due to be held there again in 2010.
