Question:

Question about Pink Floyd?

I love their music, but am not incredibly knowledgable on the band itself, and their lineup changes over the year, like Syd Barrett, etc. I tried Wikipedia but was too lazy to read the long articles.

So, in brief terms, can you explain, who's come and gone from the band, and why? Thanks!

  1. The only one to has come and gone is Syd Barrett and he did it rather quickly.

He left when they were working on their second album contributing to it only two songs.

By then he developed schizophrenia which did not go well with his heavy use of hallucinogenic drugs.

He was never to be seen again playing music and was replaced by David Gilmour who to this day has stayed with Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd broke up momentarily in the early 80's but regrouped without Roger Waters a few years later.

    They're now taking a break.

  2. I agree. Read from Wikipedia. That is what it is there for . The short version that i know is that Roger Waters and Syd Barret were best friends. Syd had a nervous breakdown and Roger wrote several albums about his friend "Wish You Were Here" "Dark Side of the Moon" and of course, "The Wall"

there is too much to tell about David Gilmour and Roger Water's rocky working relationship, and to understand it, you have to do some reading. Reading is not the worst thing, and as the other poster mentioned, it is just based in fact, not opinion.

  3. original floyd was syd barrett, roger waters, nick mason, richard wright. sid did too much acid and left band to go to nuthouse, was replaced with david gilmour, many many moons later roger waters left band cause he's an idiot and a prima donna, guy pratt has pretty much taken over bass. that's it in a nutshell
