Question about RMS for amps?

is it true that the RMS of your amplifer doubbled should equall the maxx power output for the speakers in your car say your amp is 60-150 RMS the speakers should have 100RMS and a max output of 300 Watts

  1. no really. If its a really good/expensive amp then the RMS might be half of the max power. On amps that are lower end the RMS will be lower then half because the amp isnt as efficient and the rest of the power that the amp is trying to put out is just converted into heat. Just to be on the safe side dont worry about the max power cuz in reality it doesnt mean much. Just find a good amp with good RMS and then find speakers that can handle a little higher RMS then the amp is outputing. This will help to make sure you dont blow out your speakers.

    i have alway been telling people that max power means nothing. a good quality efficient amp is what you should look for. if it gets hot, you loosing power.

    i have a 1200w amp that eats 2500w amps for breakfast....because its 95% efficient. (most amps are 40%-60%)
