Question about Rainbow Trout?...?

I caught my first rainbow trout...the most beautiful freshwater fish ive ever seen...it was 11 and a half inches long...is this a good size for it? and how long was ur biggest rainbow trout?

a 15" trout weights about 1 lb and this is a very common catch size.....2-3 lb trout are nice catches.

my biggest catch was 18".

a 43 lb yep 43... is the record.

trout fishing can be very rewarding, read about them and try to picture if you were a trout where in the water you would be and cast there. I learned to fish for trout in streams with spinners, then on lakes with super dupers and bait. The big fish don't taste near as good as the eleven inchers especially the wild trout (stocked trout seem to me to always have an earthy dirt taste) i have used mini jigs, flatfish and every fly I could afford but the wild rainbow trout are the best eating (pink to peach colored meat) the rainbow trout that go down stream and on out to the sea come back as steelhead. the largest trout I have ever caught (at Irvine Lake) was a stocked breeder (called a triploid) and was 18 pounds and caught on a sierra cocktail (baited treble hook with a little marshmallow, a chunk of nightcrawler, a few salmon eggs and all held on with a little ball of powerbait) it tasted like mud and the biggest steelhead I caught (at Nimbus Dam) was 13 pounds on a royal coachman. It could be a good size however if it was recently introduced then that's a normal size if not and it has full fins and a more silver color its been in the water some time having to feed for its self then its a really good first fish.

11 inches is a good size for a rainbow. It called pan size because it will fit in a frying pan. The larger ones must be filetted or Bar B. Q'd or smoked like salmon.

The biggest Bow I have caught is 29 1/2 inches.

Whether or not it is a good size depends on how big the lake or river/stream you caught it out of. Sometimes the trout are stocked smaller in streams and rivers and sometimes in lakes to allow them to grow up there.  It is a nice size for a stocked fish....

If you think that a rainbow trout is beautiful - go catch yourself a few brook trout - they're much nicer looking and taste better!!!

I caught my first rainbow trout it was 20 inch long and it was good too. Will good luck to you o.k and good eating too.
