Question:

Question about Religion Class?

At my school we have a Christian Brother teach us religion (makes sense, no?) But anyway, we're in a unit right now called Bioethics, in which we discuss the Catholic Church's standpoint on issues like abortion, artificial insemination, etc. Our teacher mentioned artificial insemination and talked about how it was considered immoral and then made a bunch of childish jokes about it. Everybody in the class laughed but i felt a little uncomfortable. With today's technology, there could be kids in the class who were conceived through AI and who might be too embarrassed to come out and say it. What are your thoughts?

  1. I'm Catholic and I will say that once again, the church is way, way off.  I can't stand it anymore.  In answer to your question, yes, that idiot was way out of line-especially if he's such a good, good Catholic.  Sounds like you'd make a better teacher-keep being who you are-considerate and  non-judgemental.

  2. I read an article once about a priest and a nun who had a child this way; they didn't have to break their celibacy vows.  Yeah, he probably stuck his foot in his mouth.

  3. yeah i totally agree that whatever he said was wrong. it was pretty insensitive of him. in my opinion artificial insemination isn't immoral, it helps couples who can't conceive normally, to have children. and what about single moms who don't want to go through with dealing with men and stuff (although personally I'd prefer to marry and have children, but just saying.) i think you should have voiced your opinion, even in religion class, if you felt uncomfortable. but thats just my opinion =)

  4. The teacher was out of line.

At the same time, there are some places science should not go.
