Question:

Question about Replacement Insurance!? Please help?

I work for an electric company and have this lady calling me asking us to give her a piece of paper stating that her kitchen appliances need to be replaced. She had a kitchen fire not too long ago and has smoke damage.. What would she need us to give her that piece of paper? Wouldn't her insurance adjuster take care of that for her? ( is she maybe trying to scam the system?)

  1. She's trying to get an "expert" to tell her, in writing, that she needs new appliances.   And she's doing it cheap, not wanting to hire an electrician.

Likely, her adjuster has already told her she does NOT need new appliances.

I would not do this, if I were you, as it can come back to bite you.  And, you could end up spending days in court as a witness.

  2. This seems fishy to me.  I agree with the first response.

If your company wanted to look at it and put a written response on their letterhead that would protect you.  But I would only give an opinion like that if there was no doubt that the appliances were not in good working order.  And that should be obvious to an adjuster ....

So this is one you want to stay away from unless there is something significant you have not told us...
