i am being diagnosed through the nhs for autism/aspergers and minor learning difficulties. i am 29 and i haven't been diagnosed for anything yet, i am going through the disabilty route under jcp (jobcentre plus). i have allready decided i wanna go, not sure how long you go for, my disability adviser said it could be up to a year. i wouldn't go if it was like for 4 weeks, i wanna go for longer, like from 3 months to a year. what is ST LOYES like and what sort of centre is it. i wanna go bcos they do placements through SHAW TRUST, so i wanna do a real placement, like in an office or in a factory somewhere. i am a longstanding unemployee, i've been out of for up to 12 years, do you think i should go, if i am diagnosed with minor learning problems. the other advantages of going are, when i have finished, it means i would have greater chance of finding work, once i have completed the programme, cos i would be able to further afield, for work after completion. is this a positive step for me

  1. My son has spent there about 6 months 5 years ago.

Before that he has not been able to keep any job for more than a few months.

While he was there they offered him a job as a store assistant in one of the big chain shops and he has been there since.

They will interview you and show the place to you and let you know what is available and when. You more or less choose the course you prefer. I said more or less because they will advise about the suitability of your choice.

The best of luck, you will be in good  and caring hands.

P.S. Yesterday my son became 31
