Question about Sony Bravia 46" lcd tv and digital cable?

I'm getting a new Sony 46" Bravia KDLV3000 (I think that's the correct model #) to be delivered tomorrow. I currently have the "digital value-pak" with a cable box through my local cable company, so I'm already getting digital cable but not the "HD" package. I don't necessarily want the additional channels that the HD pkg has to offer, but do I need to upgrade to HD pkg in order to get the full hd quality my tv is supposed to have? The tv has 1080p resolution. Will the picture be of poor quality if I don't call the cable company and get it upgraded? Or is having the digital box the same thing? If so, will I need a new box for hd or will the cable company just "electronically" upgrade my box from digital to hd without having to come over, etc? Also, the features on the tv specs indicate there is an HDMI connection. Does that mean I need to purchase a certain cable for that or does that come with it? I just want to be able to view the tv at it's full capability. Thanks!

  1. You will need new box and it probably will include an HDMI  or component cable, very different HD from SD

  2. You will need a HD package to view the HD picture. Probably a new cable box too. As far as the cable goes for the best in picture quality get the HDMI cable as recommended. I would of bought that cable on E Bay as you'll pay less than $10 total where as at the store they will charge you upwards of $100. It's a Good TV for the best in LCD I would look for the XBR 4 series it has a higher refresh rate for sports. Generally you'll be ok with that TV tho. If you choose to not buy the cable there are still plenty of slots to plug the TV into the Cable box or the coaxe cable directly into the TV.
