  1. a speech therapist needs a masters degree.  It is moderately difficult to get into a speech therapy program do to the limited number of spots.

a speech therapist works on feeding, sucking, talking, and understanding language--may use sign language or picture communication

can work with new borns through adults--from articulation disorders to reducing accents to autism, loss of language from injury/stroke, etc.

  2. I have been a speech/language pathologist for 25 years, and I think it is a wonderful career. Please don't take this the wrong way, because I am hoping to help you out. But I don't think that you can make this decision by asking strangers for information.  Go to the Web, to the American Speech/language Hearing Association (ASHA) website.  All of the information that you need is there.

Contact your local school district, and ask to speak with a Speech/Language Clinician. Ask the same at your local hospital. Go and do some observing of therapy (I have had young people observe me more than once).

Dig for information for yourself.  If you heop to be an SLP, you need to be a pretty self-directed person who is able to take charge and make decisions.  Go for it.

  3. Hi. I have a friend that is a Speach therapist, and he seems to really like what he does. I would think it is a very fullfilling career!!
