1. The sun does not normally affect the tides to a noticeable degree. However under certain circumstances the gravitational pull of the sun does affect the tides. Under what two (2) conditions.

a when the sun, moon, and earth are in a line

b only when the moon is between the sun and earth

c only when the earth is between the sun and the moon

d when the gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun are perpendicular to one another with respect to the Earth

  1. The sun's tidal pull is about 40% that of the moon's. It affects the tides in a 24-hour cycle while the moon affects the tides in a 25 hour cycle (roughly).

    The greatest tide is when the sun and moon are in a line with the earth. The least effect is when the sun and moon are at 90 degrees as seen from the earth.
