  1. I agree with weekly.  Texas joined the Union in 1845 or 1846.  Since the war of 1836 Texas was independent and was called the Republic of Texas.  Weekly is also right about bad economy back being main reason for joining the Union.

  2. their was no argument by Mexico, because at the time Texas was independent, loaded with debt and would be an asset to join the U.S., which they did

  3. There was no argument with Mexico. Mexico had been defeated and its President was in the hands of the Texas Army under General Sam Houston.

Texas became an independent Republic in 1836 and lasted till 1845 with its own Declaration of Independence,a Constitution,a Supreme Court,an army, navy and its own money(Texas dollar-valued at 1/4 U.S.dollar). When Texas was addmitted to the Union under the Polk Administration, one of the main agreements was that Texas could revert to being an independent Republic whenever it chose as long as it had 2/3 vote by the Texas Legislature.

Texas is the ONLY American state that has such  an agreement with the United States of America.

  4. Mexico did not recognize the Republic  of Texas. The official stand was that Mexico still had rights to Texas. There was even a border dispute over the Southern Border of Texas. The Texans claimed the Rio Grande as the Southern border, while the Mexicans claimed a river a bit father North of the Rio Grande.

Texas was admitted to the Union in 1845 after the Republic of Texas held an election and vote to join the U.S. Two and a half to three years later, the annexation would be a factor in the Mexican War.

  5. Is this a social studies homework question?

  6. Texas was a independent country known as "The Republic of Texas". They fought the Mexicans for the land and won. They were deeply in debt after their war and sought help from the US, who eventually took them in as a state.

  7. Mexico had historical rights to Texas. It was their land before the Americans took it over. Texas was not a part of the Louisiana Purchase.

But Texas was occupied by American settlers. The people occupying the land would decide their allegiance. The land was basically unsettled prior to the American settlers.
