Question about The Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Zuko's father and sister both have bended lightning before but Zuko, his uncle, and aang only re-direct it. why is that so?

I think zuko, his uncle, and aang all have the power and ability to bend lightning, they just choose not to cause it's SUPER dangerous and possibly lethal if it goes out of control. they just choose not to i guess. but his father and sister are both really powerful and don't care about anyone getting hurt so they just do what they want with all the power they have. hope this helps! the finale was amazing by the way! ^_^
