Question about Vaccines?

Has your child had a bad reaction to a vaccine? If so, which one was it and how old were they when it happened. It's that time again for me and I am getting paranoid. I HATE taking him in.

  1. 1st child: seizure disorder that started after immunizations at 18 mos and disappeared when we stopped immunizations

2nd child: severely neurologically compromised. did not immunize

3rd child: held off on immunizations until age 1, immunized with no problems

Don't trust them but kind of scared not to do them, so I waited until I thought the youngest was stronger and watched her like a hawk. Also kept her away from others first year.

  2. the worst that ever happened to my kids was a fever and bruising where they were given the shot

  3. mine never reacted to vaccines.  they were both a little fussy and had a slight fever for a day, but nothing that i would call a reaction.  babies tend to have a harder time with vaccines as they get older.  the fever is a sign that their immune system is developing defenses against the weakend or killed virus in the vaccines.  it's exactly what your baby's body is supposed to be doing.

i know it's hard and you hear scary things about vaccines, but it's part of being a good parent to get past your fears to do what is best for your child.

  4. Mine always ran a low grade temp. and my oldest once got a minor case of hives. I believe the side affects pale in comparison to the diseases they would be susceptible to if they didnt get them.

  5. No.  I know too many other children that have had severe reactions (including one that died from DTP) much worse than the diseases the shots are supposed to prevent, so my kids are vaccine-free.

  6. My son had a severe reaction to his MMR.  He had extreme pain, swelling and fever.  If you are worried, speak with your doctor.  Many parents now use an extended vaccination schedule which spaces the vaccines further apart and often does not include the "combo" type vaccinations.  Doing that alone can lessen (but not remove) the chances of reaction.

    Good luck!

  7. I hope this issue is resolved soon.  To prevent your child from being crippled by long forgotten diseases or the life saving vaccine causing autism.

Its driving parents insane.  I wish they would figure out if the autism gene is triggered by something.

  8. Try giving Tylenol before you go for the shots.  My daughter always gets a horrible fever and sometimes a rash from the shots.  I now limit to her getting 1 shot at a time and splitting them up, I delay the others by a month.  It is so much better.  Remember you are in control about when they get their shots and how many they get at once.  Hope this helped.

  9. My twins haven't had any reactions from any vaccine they have gotten, however I have refused the Hep B thus far and will get it when they are 2 years old along with the Hep A.

I hate bringing my girls in too, though.

  10. My daughter had no reaction to any..I hate taking alyx to get hers too..too many storys about things out there

  11. A little whiny and a slight fever was all I've ever had from my two children. My son is due for his meningitis vaccine on Monday.  Use some baby Tylenol and all is fine.

  12. My son was fine with his first 2 times, but at his 6 month ones, his leg remained swollen for a few days afterwards and he had a knot under where one of the shots were given.  Otherwise he was perfectly fine.  I did check with the doctor and they told me that the reaction he had in his leg was normal.  I am a little apprehensive about the 9 month ones because I was talking with someone who has an autistic child and she said that after she had her child vaccinated at 9 months he began to show signs of the disease.

  13. Your child may have an initial reaction but the cons far outweigh the pros.  A lot of UK parents are cautious about the MMR jab because of misinformation.  Therefore they don't get their child immunised.

The problem we have now, is that there's a lot more cases of measles.

Kids HATE going for jabs, so I suggest a little light blackmail.  Tell them they get a donut if they're good... you know the score!
