OK I just started my first year at WVU as a social work major, Last minute choice to attend this university. I have the grades to go else where, and what I was wandering is if WVU is a respected school like other division 1 universitys.

  1. The above answer is good. If I were you, I would ask around. Professors will even be pretty honest with you, so ask them too. My cousin got a psych degree at WVU and she was thinking about possibly going to the social work route. I've heard that it's a pretty good program. The people hiring you will probably be more concerned with subpar grades due to the partying reputation than the actual credibility of the school so just keep your grades up and I think you shouldnt have too hard of a time finding a job.

  2. I just graduated from WVU with a masters.  First, let me say, that I love WVU.  I'm a huge fan of their sport teams and forever will be.  Their education on the other hand, that could be a toss up.  It depends on what you're going into.  I haven't heard much about the social work program, so I would doubt it's a great program.  My sister even graduated in social work from WVU and I don't think she got as much out of it as she might have at other universities.  I got my BA in Spanish and MA in Education.  Both were cake walks.  Don't get me wrong, WVU has some great programs out there such as the Dental and Medical fields.  I would suggest trying to locate some social work graduates from WVU and asking them about their personal experience.  I would also look into other social work programs at other universities.  It never hurts to do some more shopping or to have options.
