Question:

Question about Windows Vista and my new laptop?

I just bought a new Toshiba laptop with 3MB memory and a dual core processor. I thought about paying more to get 4MB memory, but thought 3 would be plenty, but this new laptop runs almost at the same speed as my ancient laptop that I just replaced. My older laptop had a really slow processor and less than half the memory of this new one.

So my question is: If I put XP ( I have a disc) on this new laptop will it be significantly faster?

  1. I realy hope that it's not 3MB of RAM that is nothing, that's a grain of sand which is not any memory at all. Are you you don;t mean 3GB of RAM for the system memory. That would make more likely, since you need about 1GB of RAM for the system memory to handle Vista as it is a very demanding system.

Also do confuse system memory with the hard drive.

  2. Dude, the problem is probably your internet.

  3. 3GM of memory is plenty. I suggest you tweak Vista to speed it up. Trying to put XP might be impossible. You might need to slipstream certain drivers onto your XP disk. Like Delsin B said, it's prolly your Internet connection. Also, you might try switching to Windows Server 2008 instead of XP.

  4. you mean gig i assume  because  computers with  4 or 8 mb  ram are from the  early  90's

anyway  vista is a rescource hog and  tends to crawl anyway if  you do put xp on it this machine wil run a lot faster

  5. Jason you need 2 GB memory - 3 MB is not enough.

Upgrade it - Crucial will check your laptop and tell you what you need.

  6. I'm thinking you meant 3 gigs of memory..and that should be plenty for vista to run very nicely.  I would check your internet because there should be no reason for you to be running so slow.  And yes Vista is a hog for memory..lol

  7. Check http://www.pc-optimizer-pro.com

With pc optimizer pro you can safely clean, repair and optimize your computer.

It will help improve your system performance without expensive hardware upgrades.

  8. Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.

The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:

lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.

    Good luck!

  9. 3 gigs of memory is more than enough to properly run Vista.  The only thing I can think of is your internet connection is just slow.  Have you tried taking it to somewhere with a WiFi connection and see how it runs.

  10. check too see that your memory is installed correctly sometimes they come loose. Start>right click computer screen will display what is on your computer
