Question about a CA Exposed Firearms Permit?

Question

Here's my dilemma, The BSIS site says I can obtain my Exposed Firearm Permit at age 18 (for work as an armed guard). I'm 19, if the company does not provide a firearm for me, how do I obtain a handgun on my own?

Please include references and or qualifications.
