If I wrote a New York Times Bestseller, would it give me a much better chance of getting into Harvard than a normal smart person? thanks

  1. It would give you a somewhat better chance, but you would still need the grades and scores that others would have.  And it is easier to get into Harvard than it is to write a New Yok Times bestseller!

  2. It may increase your chances because well really any college would like to have an author of a bestseller attending, but don't think that [if that really did happen] you wouldn't have to try as hard with your grades, extracurriculars, etc. Your chances would probably increase even more if you considered majoring in English literature or something similar.

    Good luck.

  3. Yes in general it would, but Harvard is still reeling from the young woman who wrote a successful book they accepted who turned out to have plagiarized it. So don't count on it, especially since you're a Tirol--there have been no teen aged best seller authors in quite some time.

  4. Yes, that would definitely give a boost to your application, especially if you were applying to be an English or composition major.  But they let in a kid a few years ago who had a best-seller, and then it was revealed he plagiarized it - so they'll be a lot more scrutinizing in the future before just letting you in.
