  1. I too hate it when people "butcher" military surplus weapons. Why can't people appreciate them for what they are, and their historical value.

I recommend you just buy the rifle you want in the first place, that already has a detachable magazine, and sell the 91/30 to someone who can appreciate its real value.

As a military surplus rifle collector of 15 years, I can tell you:

    1)  importation laws are becoming more strict every year, especially with the Democrats coming to power.

    2)  Supplies of most historic firearms have begun to decline over the last 5 years or so.

Don't believe me?  Go to your local bookstore and buy any gun magazine with articles on this subject.

And before you ask, no, I will not sell these firearms.  I intend to pass them on to future generations.

    vangion's comments are disappointing.

  2. I answered your question in the other thread

But don't listen to them about destroying the rifle

It is just one of a million or so that the previous owner didn't want any more so he dumped them on US

The valuable piece of history rant is c**p

It is a mass produced  inanimate object made of wood and steel nothing more

Don't allow anyone to give it any more status than that, the antis are trying hard enough already

  3. Don't jump on them. We all know our Milsurps pretty well. Even if you did just drill a hole, which means machining entirely new parts for this magazine idea, you are still damaging the rifle.

If you are actually serious about making your own detachable magazine for a Mosin, you should realize the costs of this will easily exceed three or four Mosins. So you are honestly better off getting a rifle already designed for detachable box mags.

    Do you follow me?

On behalf of all Mosins, I thank you for agreeing to preserve them.

Vangion is a short-sighted fool. In sixty years that rifle will be very valuable. And the ones that have been screwed up will be worth ****. It already happened with the K98 and the Arisaka. It will keep happening. The Mosin and SKS are next on the chopping block.

  4. Legally, you should be alright since the detachable magazine would be the only suspect feature.

But WHY would you want to butcher a piece of history? Would you tear the Mona Lisa from its frame to make it more portable? I lovingly maintain all my milsurps, only altering what must be done to keep them safe and in working order. I encourage other collectors to do the same. These are classics, even if they are inexpensive and plentiful.
