I had a blood test done the other day called a CRP....it was elevated, therefore my doc said I had a torn ligament, tendon or cartilage. Has anyone else had this test done? Are they pretty accurate?

  1. It is a common test, but not as accurate as a CT scan.  Most doctors order the blood test because it is far less expensive than a CT scan or x-ray, and more accepted by insurance.

  2. CRP stands for C-reactive Protein and it measures the amount of protein in your blood which in turn signals acute inflammation.

  3. no they are not, they are used to tell if a part of your body has become swollen.  the test wont tell you where the problem is or how severe.  a positive test should be followed up by a more thourough examination
