Question about a redshirt player?

Tyrod Taylor was redshirted by Virginia Tech, does that mean he wont play this season?

that means he will not suit up at all during the season, but he gets that year back after his 4th year in school.  So he could end up being a 5th year senior with eligibility.

He won't play this year but will keep all of his years of eligibility.  So if he's a freshman he'll still have 4 years of eligibility left.

UNLESS...he is needed for some reason. Redshirts are designed for giving players 5 years to finish 4 years of eligibility, but if there are enough injuries and Beamer thinks he's ready he will "burn the redshirt."
