I had a root canal done yesterday , and now as of today I started feeling the same pain I did on my tooth before I got it fixed on the opposite side of my mouth . Is that normal and just a side effect ?

  1. I wouldn't say it's "normal" to have pain on the opposite side of your mouth after a root canal.  It is normal to have some discomfort associated with the tooth, and it is common for dental pain to be referred from one area of the mouth to another area (even the other side).

If you haven't had the other side looked at in awhile, I would get it checked, because you could have something going on there- and it might just be a coincidence that you are noticing it now.  Or, if the root canal eliminated the pain on the one side, that may make the other side more noticible.

If you have had a full exam, and there wasn't anything going on on the side that is now sore, I would just wait a few days to see if it goes away.

    Hope that helps.

  2. you are not specific enough. please state more information. could be what's called referred pain, or not.
