  1. Yes - winning a state-wide high school recognition or award is always a positive factor when considering scholarship applications.

    Ultimately, however, most performance scholarships are primarily determined by your audition opportunity.

    You didn't indicate whether you're in band or you're an orchestral student, but the band info was easier to find on the website, so I've cut and pasted it here. In all likelihood, the information for orchestra would be very similar if not exactly the same.

    "There are several opportunities for financial assistance through the Department of Fine Arts, and the Financial Aid Office. They include:

        * The Band Grant

        * General University Academic Scholarship

        * Endowment Scholarships

        * In State Tuition (for students who qualify)

        * The Jazz Band Scholarship

        * College Work Study Program

    Please be advised that the decision for scholarship and grant awards are made in the months of December, February and April. Please be sure that all applications and forms have been submitted well in advance of these months, for all persons requesting financial assistance.

    The Fine Arts Department requires, an audition (taped or live/class or grade II solo material or higher). Should you need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me or the Department of Fine Arts at your earliest convenience."

    I hope that helped!
