  1. Bipolar is hereditary, but not every single generation/person gets it.  My father and my sister are bipolar but i am not.  She should read up on it and talk to her pediatricin about any concerns she may have.  Bipolar is treatable and worse in some people than others, basically it's also called 'manic depression' the sufferer can experience extreme highs (mania/manic like hyperactive) and then extreme lows (depression).  When i was in the process of being tested, i was told by my doc that drugs and alcohol can 'bring it out' or make it worse...

  2. It's heredity, passed on from mother to daughters. Males are less affected.

  3. If she is concerned she should definitely read up on the subject and start looking for symptoms.

Also voice her concern with the pediatrician.

Also if she has any history of other family members with Bipolar disorder and what type hers was diagnosed as.

  4. It's hereditary, but that doesn't mean that the boy has it.  As long as she informs the pediatrician about his medical history, it shouldn't be a problem.

Tell your friend I wish her luck!

  5. There is an increased chance that the child could develop bi-polar but a solid, healthy enjoyable environment to grow up in has as much pull too!!!
