Question:

Question about adult ADD?

When I was 13, I was diagnosed with ADD. The doctor wanted to get me on Ritalin or something, but my mom said no. I'm 25 now, and although I believe that I alone am responsible for my behavior, it would be nice to know if I have the option to start medication if I start to believe it would be useful. What is the whole process for getting diagnosed and treated for ADD?

  1. Schedule an appointment with a Psychiatrist.  Bring any medical records with you to the first meeting so you can show the doctor you were diagnosed ADD at age 13.  This may very well speed up the the whole process / initial evaluation.  I imagine doctor's appreciate this because it makes their job easier.  Bear in mind that the first meeting will cost you & arm & a leg - this is the evaluation - hope you have insurance.  But don't worry about what the evaluation entails.  You'll do fine.  That's it.  :-)
